Frank A. Johnstone


Of Counsel

Frank Johnstone Mr. Johnstone is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. 1974)(Phi Beta Kappa) and Duke University School of Law (J.D. 1977). He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Emeritus), the Kingsport (President 1988-1989), Tennessee, and American Bar Associations. Mr. Johnstone served on the Tennessee Bar Association’s Board of Governors for six years. He has been a member of the Tennessee Bar Foundation since 2008. 

Mr. Johnstone is a Rule 31 Listed Mediator in Tennessee (General Civil) and is a Registered Mediator with the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution. 

Mr. Johnstone served as a member of the District I Hearing Committee for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility for six years. 

Since he came to Kingsport in 1978,  Mr. Johnstone’s practice has been divided between trial practice and other matters. Over the years, he has represented individuals, families, homeowners’ associations, financial institutions, and small businesses. These matters have included creditors’ rights, real estate, business organizations and ERISA, as well as litigation in both trial and appellate courts. Recently, he was a contributor to The Charging Orders Practice Guide published by the American Bar Association.

Mr. Johnstone has, at different times, served on the boards of local nonprofit organizations including the Kingsport Center of Opportunity, Rascals Teen Center, Kingsport Symphony Orchestra (now Symphony of the Mountains), the Literacy Council of Kingsport, and the Kingsport chapter of the American Heart Association. For many years he served as an educational counselor for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Rotary Club-Kingsport Sunrise, serving his second term as president, and a Paul Harris fellow.
